In November, Ian Siegal will tour as a duo with the Grammy-nominated songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Mississippi, Jimbo Mathus. They will perform 22 shows in England, N. Ireland, Scotland, Belgium and Holland.
For devotees of blues and Americana, Ian Siegal needs no introduction. He’s the seven-times British Blues Awards winner, the European Blues Awards winner, and US Blues Music Awards nominee. He’s sung with the prestigious ONJ orchestra in Paris and Edinburgh, toured in 25 countries, and his latest CD is a BBC recording made at the Royal Albert Hall. http://iansiegal.com
Siegal first met Mathus in 2013 when he dropped by the Zebra Ranch studio in Coldwater Mississippi to contribute some banjo and mandolin parts to a Siegal recording. The two discovered a shared passion for many of the same musical influences. Now, when someone has found fame with a band called Squirrel Nut Zippers (as Mathus did when he formed this alt-Americana outfit), you know you’re in for something different! An almost overnight sensation, The Zippers played at the Second inauguration of President Bill Clinton and the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Their albums achieved gold and platinum sales. Then, at their peak and in classic music industry style amid disastrous lawsuits, the Squirrel Nut Zippers were no more. Mathus, of Scots and Italian decent, went on to pursue a variety of musical projects. Among these he toured and recorded with Buddy Guy (catalyzing the distinct approach of Guy’s “Sweet tea†album), and is a founding member of the South Memphis String Band with long-time collaborators Luther Dickinson and Alvin Youngblood Hart. It is 16 years since Mathus last toured in Europe. With the resurgence of blues and Americana on this side of the Atlantic he has timed his return just right. Ryan Morcombe
Ryan Morcombe is a 25 year old Blues Folk singer-songwriter from Whitburn. For a young guy, Ryan Morecombe has an old soul. He’s been, as he puts it, ‘Kicking around’ for over two years, working his way through venues which include King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, Nice ‘N’ Sleazy, Henry’s Cellar, The Dreadnought Rock Club, Bathgate Music Festival and The Leith Folk Club; and has performed as far afield as Amsterdam. Morecombe plays a harmonica live, to go with his strumming humming alter-ego from American’s dirty south. He was recently been featured in the “New Music” section of the Daily Record where he received very praising reviews. He has garnered radio play on some local and online radio stations, including east coast FM and Sugar Radio. Earlier this year, Ryan released his debut EP, “Propped Up By Bones” available for free download from www.lesfritespetites.co.uk “When I first stumbled across Ryan Morcombe I stopped and did a double take, wailing harmonica and jangling guitar, an old soul in a young man’s body.†The Daily Record “I took a double-take upon hearing one of his tracks ‘Bleeding Dry’. It’s a dusty ol’ Delta blues number in the vein of Big Joe Williams, or to use a more contemporary comparison, Willis Earl Beal. It’s refreshing to hear real blues, not that tacky put blues your old history teacher use to play, being played truthfully and honestly.” Mikey Rush, Go Guide Magazine http://www.facebook.com/RyanAtTheDisco From 7pm – 11pm in The Ballroom.
